Introduction and Purpose
Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman said, "When we lose the memory of our past, when we lose our understanding of the remarkable individuals, events, and values that have shaped this nation, we are losing much of what it means to be an American." The purpose of this project is to let the students of Highland Park schools become familiar with the history of the architectural structures where they attend school and the historic art within the walls of those buildings. It is hoped that by looking at the historic art and architecture of Highland Park schools, our students can gain a sense of understanding about the important role of the arts in their lives today and in the future and make learning connections through the arts. It is hoped that these students can add to the collection of art that the District 112 has acquired and learn about the conservation and preservation of the district's art and architecture.
This project was funded by a generous grant from YEA! Highland Park, a program initiated by Ray Geraci, that supports youth, education and the arts in Highland Park, Illinois. The project was researched by President Charlotte Shields and Board Member Connie Kieffer, Ed.D. The curriculum project was written by Connie Kieffer and the webmaster was Becky Robinson.
