The 2009 tour will provide a glimpse into the development of 20th Century architecture, featuring designs of the late Arts and Crafts Movement, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie Style and the International Style.

“The Twentieth Century Limited” House Tour affords a unique opportunity to explore two houses designed by the noted Mies van der Rohe protege, A. James Speyer.  Also included in the tour will be two interesting examples of early and mature architectural designs by John Van Bergen, who was the last associate of Wright in his Oak Park, IL studio, and an example of the work of Arthur Dennis Stevens, who was Wright‘s last apprentice at his Wisconsin Taliesin studio.  These  houses demonstrate how Wright inspired the next generation of architects.Rose Pavillion

The tour will also feature landscapes designed by internationally acclaimed landscape architect Jens Jensen, known for his prairie style design work, as well as the work of his assistant and son-in-law, Marshall Johnson.

As an added bonus, people on the tour will be able to visit “City in a Park - Place of Natural Beauty,” a museum exhibit featuring over 100 historic photographs and landscape drawings celebrating the work of Jensen, Johnson and some of the other most famous landscape architects of the early 20th Century who worked to preserve the park-like nature of Highland Park.
