Highland Park Historical Society Unveils Hall of Fame; Inducts Former CIA Director Stansfield Turner and Basketball Star Michael Jordan as “Persons of the Year” at Society’s March 13th Homegrown Benefit Gala
Highland Park native, Stansfield Turner, former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, will be inducted as “Person of the Year 2010” into the Highland Park Historical Society’s newly-established Hall of Fame which will be unveiled at the Society’s Homegrown Benefit Gala, “Here’s Lookin’ At You,” to be held on Saturday, March 13, at 6:00 p.m., at The Birchwood Club, 1174 Park Avenue West, in Highland Park, IL. Basketball star Michael Jordan, a Highland Park resident, will be honored in absentia as the Society’s “Person of the Year 2009” – our first Hall of Fame inductee – in honor of his Basketball Hall of Fame induction last year.
Highland Parker Steve Zacharias, a prolific Hollywood and television comedy screenwriter, producer and director, will be present, along with Admiral Turner, for the induction ceremony. Zacharias is most notably known for the “Revenge of the Nerds” movie franchise.
Other inductees who hail from Highland Park, but cannot be present, will include Academy Award-winning screenwriter William Goldman; Hubble astronaut John Grunsfeld; TV and film director, writer and producer Brian Levant; and ABC News Chief Investigative Correspondent Brian Ross.
Jeff Goldblatt, co-anchor of WFLD-TV/FOX News at 9:00 p.m., will serve as Master of Ceremonies at the dinner-dance fundraising event, which will also feature Highland Park’s hometown star Judy Markey, author and former co-host of the popular “Kathy & Judy” show on WGN Radio, as its special guest.
Music for the black-tie-invited event will be provided by the Highland Park Pops Big Band and the Matt Nelson Jazz Trio. Additional entertainment will be provided by the Improv Playhouse North Shore Traveling Troupe, formerly the Eileen Boevers Traveling Troupe.
Highlighting the gala will be short films starring many of Highland Park’s “homegrown” residents – people who grew up in the North Shore suburb, who chose to raise their families in their hometown, and are the backbone of the community. Highland Park residents who would like to participate in this feature on homegrown celebrities are invited to contact the Highland Park Historical Society at 847-432-7090.
The Highland Park Historical Society was formed in 1966. Its museum is a 12 room, two story Italianate Victorian house donated to the Society in 1968 by Jean Butz James. The Society’s mission is to discover, preserve, provide access to and disseminate the history of the general area and of Highland Park, in particular. For more information, you are invited to call 847-432-7090 and visit the museum’s website at www.highlandparkhistory.com.
